to your driving licence:
Paperwork
Before you can start with theory or practice, we first need to take care of a little paperwork. It'll be quick, we promise!
1
Register with us
Before we can get started, you first need to register with our driving school. You can do this in person at our office at Lenaustraße 27, near Herrmannplatz, or simply and conveniently online.
2
First Aid Course
Every new rider must complete a first aid course. You can also take it directly with us!
You can find info & dates > on our page.
3
Registration with the licensing authority
You can't just start whenever you like. The State Office for Citizen and Regulatory Affairs (LABO) first has to approve the application. It's best to submit the application directly with us – that way it's faster too.
Our insider tip:
Take the First Aid course first.
If you come to us with your completed first aid certificate, a biometric photo and a passed eye test, we can take care of both registrations at once!
Theory
Mandatory lessons combined with a top learning app for fast, easy success.
1
Mandatory theory lessons
After registering, you can start theory lessons with us right away. There are 16 in total for the class A licence. Here you can find our theory lesson schedule.
2
Learning App
With us you'll get access to the ClickClickDrive learning app after registering. It contains all the relevant topics and exam-related questions for you.
Stay on track!
Yes, the theory questions have become quite extensive by now. It's best to study a little every day in the app so you don't fall behind.
Whoever finishes theory early also gets to the practical exam sooner.
Practice
This is where the fun begins! There are a few things to keep in mind though.
1
Driving lessons
In your regular driving lessons, you'll learn how to operate and safely handle the motorcycle. Our instructors are specially trained to teach you this with plenty of patience and feel.
For the best learning results, we usually work with double lessons of 2x45 minutes each.
2
Special drives
Special drives include rural roads, motorway driving and night driving in the dark. By law, you must complete 5 rural-road lessons, 4 motorway drives and at least 3 night drives.
Each special drive lasts 45 minutes. We usually do 2-3 of these sessions back to back with you.
3
Practical exam
Our goal: to help you pass on your first try! Our instructors have a lot of experience and can judge very accurately whether you're ready for the exam. We will never talk you into extra lessons you don't need.
But we don't want to send you too early either – who wants to take the exam twice?

FAQ
Class A licence: What am I allowed to ride?
With this licence class, you're allowed to ride motorcycles of any size and power output. There are no restrictions on engine power or displacement. You can get this licence directly from age 24, or after holding an A2 licence for two years and passing a practical exam.
In addition to motorcycles, the class A licence also lets you ride trikes and quads, as long as they're approved for road use.
Motorcycle licence duration
The time it takes to get your motorcycle licence depends on several factors, including how much time you have for driving lessons and theory classes. As a rule of thumb, though, you can expect it to take a few months. If you prepare intensively and attend courses regularly, you can complete the licence faster. At our driving school, we place great importance on you learning to ride well and safely, and we adapt the lessons to your individual learning pace. This way, we make sure you're optimally prepared for the exam and for driving on real roads afterwards.
Unrestricted class A licence: Age
For the unrestricted class A motorcycle licence, also known as the "open A licence", you must be at least 24 years old. However, if you've already held an A2 licence for at least two years, you can get the open A licence as early as age 20 by passing a practical exam. These rules ensure that riders gain sufficient experience before being allowed to ride more powerful motorcycles.
Class A licence exam
The exam for the class A licence consists of several parts you must successfully complete to get your motorcycle licence. First comes the theory exam, which tests your knowledge of traffic rules, road safety and motorcycle-specific questions. The questions are usually multiple-choice, and you need to answer a certain number correctly to pass.
After the theory comes the practical exam, which has several parts. It starts with exercises in a closed-off area, where basic riding skills like slalom riding, braking and evasive manoeuvres are tested. Here you need to show that you can safely control your motorcycle.
Next comes riding in real traffic, where an examiner accompanies you and assesses your riding behaviour, your traffic awareness and your ability to correctly apply the traffic rules. You need to demonstrate that you can take part in traffic safely and confidently.
Throughout the exam, your responsible and anticipatory riding is also assessed. It's important to stay calm and focused in order to pass the exam successfully.
After successfully passing both the theory and practical exams, you'll receive your class A licence and be allowed to ride motorcycles of any power class.
What driving lessons do I need for the class A licence?
For the class A licence, you need to complete various types of driving lessons, starting with basic training, where you learn the fundamental manoeuvres and skills for handling a motorcycle. This is followed by practice lessons in real traffic, to apply what you've learned and gain experience in different traffic situations. In addition, special training drives such as rural-road, motorway and night drives are legally required to prepare you for special driving situations. Finally, during exam preparation you focus on perfecting all the necessary manoeuvres and refining your riding style, so you're optimally prepared for the practical exam.
Does the class A licence have horsepower restrictions?
The open class A licence, which can be obtained from age 24 or after two years of holding an A2 licence, has no power restrictions. This means you're allowed to ride motorcycles of any power class.
