Here's how we get you
to your driving licence:

Paperwork

Before you can start with theory or practice, we first need to take care of a bit of paperwork. It's quick too!

1

Register with us

Before you can get started, you first need to register with us at the driving school. You can do this in person at our office at Lenaustraße 27 near Herrmannplatz, or simply and conveniently online.

2

First Aid Course

Every learner driver must complete a First Aid course. You can take it directly with us!

You'll find information & dates > on our page.

3

Registration with the licensing authority

You can't just get a driving licence right away. First, the State Office for Civic and Regulatory Affairs (LABO) has to approve the application. It's best to submit your application directly with us - that way it goes faster too.

Our insider tip:
Take the First Aid course first.

If you come to us with your completed First Aid certificate, a biometric passport photo, and a passed eye test, we can take care of both registrations at once!

Theory

Mandatory lessons combined with a top learning app for fast and easy success.

1

Mandatory theory lessons

After registering, you can start theory lessons with us right away. There are 14 in total for the class B licence. Here you'll find the schedule for our theory lessons.

2

Learning app

With us, you'll get access to the ClickClickDrive learning app after registering. It contains all the relevant topics and exam-relevant questions for you.

3

Theory exam

We'll enable you for the theory exam once you've attended all the mandatory theory lessons and your learning progress in the app is at least 90%. You then take the exam at TÜV or Dekra depending on where you registered.

Stay on track!

Yes, the theory questions have become quite extensive. It's best to study a little every day in the learning app so you don't fall behind.

Whoever finishes theory sooner also gets to the practical exam faster.

Practice

This is where the fun begins! However, there are a few things to keep in mind.

1

Driving lessons

In regular driving lessons, you'll learn to operate the car and handle it safely. Our instructors are specially trained to teach you this with a lot of patience and sensitivity.

For the best learning results, we usually work with double lessons of 2x40 minutes each.

2

Special drives

Special drives are country-road drives, motorway drives, and night drives in the dark. By law you must complete 5 country-road lessons, 4 motorway lessons, and at least 3 night lessons.

Each special drive lasts 45 minutes. As a rule, we do 2-3 of these in a row with you.

3

Practical exam

Our goal: for you to pass on the very first try! Our instructors have a lot of experience and can very accurately assess whether you're ready for the exam. But we will never talk you into driving lessons you don't need.

But we don't want to send you off too early either - who wants to take the exam twice, after all?

Exam dates in Berlin!?

As a small driving school, we manage this well! We put you on the waiting list early so you get your exam date on time.

"Patient and entertaining."

"I can only recommend this driving school! Above all, the instructor is super nice, relaxed, and was very patient with me whenever something didn't go well while driving. She taught me to drive in a way that I now feel confident and comfortable heading into real-world driving :) In addition, the theory lessons were entertaining, and I was also able to complete the First Aid course at the driving school, which was very convenient."

"No more exam anxiety!"

I was very satisfied and can only recommend this driving school. The driving lessons were great, and my instructor, among other things, helped me get over my fear of exams and always encouraged me. Whenever I had questions, the office answered right away. Thanks to Beyhan the instructor and thanks to everyone else at the school who were always there as quickly as possible whenever I had questions!

FAQ

Class B licence trailer: What am I allowed to tow?

With a standard class B licence, in Germany you're allowed to tow a trailer with a permissible total weight of up to 750 kg. If the trailer is heavier, the combined permissible total weight of the towing vehicle and trailer must not exceed 3,500 kg.

Class B licence: What am I allowed to drive?

With a class B licence, in Germany you're allowed to drive motor vehicles with a permissible total weight of up to 3,500 kg. This also includes towing trailers, provided the trailer's permissible total weight doesn't exceed 750 kg. If the trailer is heavier, the combined permissible total weight of the towing vehicle and trailer must not exceed 3,500 kg.

Can I ride a motorcycle with a class B licence?

No, with a class B licence you're not allowed to ride a motorcycle in Germany. For motorcycles you need a separate motorcycle licence. Classes A, A1, A2, or AM are required for different types and power levels of motorcycles.

The B196 extension allows you to ride light motorcycles in Germany up to 125 cc and with a power output of up to 11 kW (15 hp) without holding a full class A1 motorcycle licence. However, you must be at least 25 years old and have held your class B licence for at least five years.

For the B196 extension , a theoretical and practical training course is required, but no separate exam. After completing the training, you'll receive a certificate that lets you have the extension entered at the licensing office.

This regulation only applies in Germany; abroad, you're not allowed to ride light motorcycles with the B196 extension.

Am I allowed to ride a moped with a car licence?

Yes, with a German class B car licence you're also allowed to ride mopeds and scooters up to 50 cc and a design-restricted top speed of 45 km/h. In this case, a separate class AM licence isn't necessary, since it's already included in the class B licence. So if you have a car licence, you're automatically also entitled to ride mopeds and small scooters.

To what extent can I extend my car licence?

In Germany there are certain ways to extend your class B licence without taking another exam:

  • B96: If you want to tow a trailer with a permissible total weight between 750 kg and 3,500 kg, and the combination of towing vehicle and trailer weighs more than 3,500 kg but no more than 4,250 kg, you can obtain a B96 certificate. This requires special training, but no separate driving test.
  • B196: This extension allows you to ride class A1 light motorcycles (up to 125 cc and a maximum of 11 kW power output) if you're at least 25 years old and have held your class B licence for at least five years. Here too, training is required, but no separate exam.
  • Special vehicles: With a class B licence, you're also allowed to drive certain special vehicles such as agricultural tractors up to 32 km/h or self-propelled work machines up to 25 km/h.

For all other licence classes such as A, C, or D, you must take separate exams (theoretical and practical).

Can I get my driving licence in Poland?

In principle, it's possible to get your driving licence in an EU member state like Poland and then drive in Germany. However, there are certain requirements and restrictions you should be aware of:

  1. Residency requirement: You must have your permanent residence in the country where you obtain your driving licence for the entire duration of the training and exam. A short stay solely for the purpose of quick licence training is not in line with EU regulations and may result in the licence not being recognised in Germany.
  2. Minimum age: The age restrictions for the respective licence classes must be observed. In the EU, the minimum age for class B is generally 18 years.
  3. Recognition: A licence obtained in Poland must generally be recognised in Germany, as long as it was issued according to EU standards and none of the above conditions were violated.
  4. Penalties and sanctions: If you violate these or other rules, this can have significant consequences, including fines and revocation of your driving licence.

So yes, it's theoretically feasible, but you should carefully consider all the conditions and potential risks. The effort of a complete relocation is disproportionate to the hoped-for benefits.

My driving licence was stolen, what do I need to do?

If your driving licence has been stolen, you should take the following steps immediately (don't worry, you won't have to retake the exam):

  1. File a police report: The first step is to report the theft to the police. This is important for documentation and any potential insurance claims.
  2. Arrange for it to be blocked: Contact the responsible licensing office to report the loss and have it blocked. This prevents misuse of your licence.
  3. Apply for a replacement licence: To get a new licence, you must appear in person at the licensing office. For this you'll need:
    - ID card or passport
    - A current biometric photo
    - The police theft report
    - If applicable, further documents depending on the specific licensing office.
  4. Fees: Fees apply for issuing a replacement licence. The amount can vary depending on the federal state.
  5. Waiting time: It may take some time before the new licence is issued. You'll usually receive a temporary driving permit, which however is not valid for driving abroad. (As of October 2023: in Berlin it currently takes 3-8 weeks before your new licence can be collected.)
  6. Inform your insurance: Depending on your insurance coverage, it may also be worthwhile to inform your car insurance about the theft.

These are the basic steps you should take to properly handle the theft of your driving licence.

What trailer rules apply to the class B licence?

With a class B licence, in Germany you're allowed to tow a trailer with a permissible total weight of up to 750 kg. In addition, the combined permissible total weight of the towing vehicle and trailer must not exceed 3,500 kg. The trailer must match the vehicle class of the towing vehicle.

What is the extension called that allows riding a motorcycle with a class B licence?

The licence extension B196 allows you to ride 125 cc motorcycles with up to 11 kW of power without having to take a separate motorcycle exam. The requirement is that you're at least 25 years old and have held your class B licence for five years. The extension includes theoretical and practical training, but no final exam. After completing the training, class B196 will be noted on your licence.
